How do students become involved?
A: Currently only 5th grade students from Woodlands School are being invited to apply. This will grow and change in the future.
What do students have to do to apply?
A: Students must fill out a questionnaire about their behavior and goals, and get a teacher recommendation. Several board members make the choices of which students get to be part of the program.
Who are the chaperones/teachers?
A: Teachers are volunteers from local educational institutions. There will always be female chaperones for girls and male chaperones for boys. All volunteers go through a screening process and background check.
In the photographs, I see students by water. Is there any reason I should be fearful of this?
A: While the group is in Port Angeles, they do water studies at the Feiro Marine Life Center, which is located on the harbor. Students may walk on the piers and the beach, but they are surrounded by adult chaperones at all times. While the group is at Second Beach on the Pacific coast, students study tide pool animals and may get their feet wet while doing this. Once again, at this beach, chaperones are all around. There is never any swimming allowed.
Why should I trust ImaginAction to take my child on this trip?
A: Mr. Wilson is a certified teacher, with years of experience traveling with students (Boundary Waters Canoe Area, Denmark, Washington, D.C., Canada and Springfield, IL, to name a few). His credentials are impeccable. Over the years, Mr. Wilson has also volunteered with the YMCA in Milwaukee, and Cops 'N Kids Reading Center, American Cancer Society & Focus on Community in Racine. If requested, he will supply you a list of references (ex-principals, etc.) that you may contact. All other chaperones are well-chosen and respected.
